Aquaponics Test Subjects

Part of practice in doing something for the first time is to test if things will do or work as imagined. Some of my test subjects during the early days of this R&D are ladyfingers, pechay, ginger and scallions.

Aquaponics Overdrive

When progressive results where coming in, I went from the styro to the DIY tubs. Using wood and ordinary liners, I made my first 4 feet by 2 feet fish tank.

Clay pots and PVC tubes for fish nesting and resting.

I was surprise to see my fishes well and alive even though I use water directly from the faucet of our local water source.

Superworms

With my intention to provide a live feed for my fishes, I also tried growing darkling beetles . Though the test was partially successfully, I never gotten into a bigger scale. Moreover I have a lot about these dudes, and someday when the time and place is right, I will pull them out of the records to redevelop.

Styro

Styro Boxes was my all time favorite. It was cheap and easy to work on for holes drains with the absence of power tools.

Uninvited guest are always present during these days of progress, resting and taking a bite without permission.

But even some losses, yields was impressive.

Aquaponics Mark1

Since the lab was running I have made a lot of testings, trials and errors. Setting different setups with what available resource I have and can acquire or afford.

Back then, the available fish locally was black tilapia fingerlings. I started with these dudes for a lot of tries. I have killed a lot of them. And I have learned a lot also.

Mush Room Culture

One of the R&D that my laboratory went thru was the culturing of mushrooms. Though partially successful, I decided not to push the R&D due to raw materials and tools availability.

Power Station

The following photos are result of years of saving and toiling to make it happen. I was able to put up my own solar power generator for my laboratory. My lab will focus on the development of self-sustainable food source by means of aquaponics and backyard gardening.
